Even the smallest changes can make a big difference.
Here are some easy tips on what you and everyone can do to help protect our ocean.

Help clean your local area

Beach and river clean-ups are a hands-on way to prevent plastic pollution before it reaches the ocean. You can now participate in a DAVIDOFF Cool Water beach clean up in your local area organized in collaboration with National Geographic and a local organisation. You can also join a community team who hosts regular beach clean ups or organize your own.

The Plastic Challenge

Participate in 'The Plastic Challenge’, attempting to avoid single-use plastic for as long as you can. Go plastic-free for a day, a week, a month or longer. You can even host a ‘Plastic Challenge Event’!

Support a bag tax or ban

Every year one hundred billion plastic bags are discarded in America alone. New York, San Francisco and Chicago have already introduced a legislation, but there is still some way to go. Encourage your local government to introduce legislation supporting a plastic bag ban or tax in the retail industry by writing letters to elected officials.

Spread the word

Encourage friends and family to properly dispose of their plastic waste, and teach them creative ways to upcycle their plastic.

Protect the ocean everyday

Overfishing and unsustainable fishing methods are pushing global fish stocks to the point of collapse and destroying ocean seabeds and coral. Purchase only MSC certified seafood to help protect our marine environment and ensure seafood can be enjoyed for many years to come.

Pollution is not something we can ignore. Share the tips above with your family and friends, and if you ever see someone acting with disregard to the environment, try and steer them in the right direction so they too can help save the world’s ocean.

Recycling not only protects the ocean but also helps to reduce global pollution and preserve trees and other natural resources. Plus, when recycled correctly, litter can be used to create brand new things. Organise cleanups in your area, and recycle the litter you find.

Throwaway products like plastic water bottles and shopping bags often end up in the ocean, where they stay for generations and kill tens of thousands of marine animals every year! Carry a reusable water bottle, store food in non-disposable containers, bring your own reusable bag when shopping.

Whether you enjoy diving, surfing, or sunbathing, always make sure to clean up after yourself at the end of a great day by the beach. Explore and appreciate the ocean without interfering with wildlife or removing rocks and coral. And encourage your friends and family to respect the marine environment and participate in local beach cleanups.
